“Holding Your Hand …”

Three of my all-time favorite Bible promises are found in two chapters of Isaiah. The first one is in Isaiah 40:

Look at the evening sky! Who created the stars? Who gave them each a name? Who leads them like an army? The Lord is so powerful that none of the stars are ever missing.

You people of Israel, say, “God pays no attention to us! He doesn’t care if we are treated unjustly.”

But how can you say that? Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard? The Lord is the eternal God, Creator of the earth. He never gets weary or tired; his wisdom cannot be measured.

The Lord gives strength to those who are weary. Even young people get tired, then stumble and fall. But those who trust the Lord will find new strength. They will be strong like eagles soaring upward on wings; they will walk and run without getting tired. (Isaiah 40:26-31, CEV)

I love this promise because it points to God’s strength and power. If He had the smarts and the power to create our universe, He can certainly do what needs to be done in my life to prepare me for an eternity with Him.

But strength and power alone, can be a bit cold – not very personal. These two promises in Isaiah 41 speak to that:

“Don’t be afraid. I am with you. Don’t tremble with fear. I am your God. I will make you strong, as I protect you with my arm and give you victories.” (Isaiah 41:10, CEV)

And then:

“I am the Lord your God. I am holding your hand, so don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.” (Isaiah 41:13, CEV)

In these promises I see a personal God who cares enough about me to not only be strong, but tender as well – as tender as a loving Father holding His child’s hand to comfort him or her through the storms of life.

This is a God I can trust and rely on. I can trust Him to keep me and my loved ones from being damaged beyond repair; to use His power to remake my life into all He wants me to be, and to love and support me in the process!

From Bible Gateway’s Weekly Brief

What Does the Bible Say About Atonement? The Bible presents the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ in several images. What if those separate images were fit together to comprise one grand impression of Christ's saving work while also allowing each piece to retain its recognizable particularity? Bible Gateway interviewed Joshua M. McNall about his book, The Mosaic of Atonement: An Integrated Approach to Christ's Work. (Click here to read more.)

God’s Will and Your Life: Have we compartmentalized "God's will for us" so much that we exclude its true meaning? Are we so fixated on wanting to know specific divine plans for life that we become paralyzed by fear and crushed by self-induced stress? Is God's purpose and plan for our lives the shell game we all too often make it out to be? Bible Gateway interviewed Mike Donehey (of Tenth Avenue North) about his book, Finding God's Life for My Will: His Presence is the Plan. (Click here to read more.)

NIV Quest Study Bible: Is There Any “Secular” Evidence to Support the Bible’s Claims? This is the second post in the NIV Quest Study Bible series on the Bible Gateway Blog in which a popular question about the Bible is asked and answered. (Click here to read more.)

Healthy for a Lifetime

Healthy for a Lifetime offers a powerful and positive message of hope to everyone who has seen family and friends affected by heart disease, diabetes, obesity and other conditions. There are few things more important than our health and while much time, effort, and money has been spend on ways to improve health over the past 50 years, obesity has nearly tripled, diabetes is up about 600%, and heart disease remains the leading killer.

Only whole food plant-based nutrition has been scientifically proven to actually reverse all these conditions without negative side effects, but this information has not been widely shared with the public. This is an opportunity to hear the evidence firsthand from the leading experts in a relaxed, fun, and non-medical atmosphere where all are welcome.

Healthy for a Lifetime will take place Saturday, October 19, 2019 starting at 9:00 am and concluding around 5:00 pm at the CHI Health Center in Omaha (455 N. 10th St., Omaha, NE). The cost for the seminar is $49.50 per person ($39.50 for full-time students) and includes a buffet lunch, free parking, and a gift bag. Click here for a  printable information sheet. Adventist Screening Verification

Verified Volunteers has changed their name to Sterling Volunteers. The NAD has decided to select a parent name that can remain in their publications and website landing pages on a permanent basis. The name chosen for all our background screening and training needs is Adventist Screening Verification.

In cooperation with the Kansas Nebraska Conference, we are working with Adventist Screening Verification to provide background checks and on-line education for our church officers and everyone who works with our children. This helps ensure that we have some training to help us recognize and avoid situations that would put our children at risk. In addition to our elected Church Officers, everyone who works with Pathfinders and Adventurers, Children’s or Youth Sabbath School Classes, Children’s Church, and VBS must go through this training and submit to a background check (there is no cost to you or to our church). It will take about an hour of your time.

To go to the website where you begin this process, click here and then select First-Time Registrant and follow the instructions. For more information, contact Pastor T (402-517-5333).
