Promises for Today

Here are a couple of promises that are helping me deal with life right now – perhaps you’ll find them helpful too – Pastor T.

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth. He never becomes faint or weary; there is no limit to his understanding. He gives strength to the faint and strengthens the powerless. Youths may become faint and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:28-21, CSB)

“Don’t be afraid. I am with you. Don’t tremble with fear. I am your God. I will make you strong, as I protect you with my arm and give you victories … I am the Lord your God. I am holding your hand, so don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.” (Isaiah 41:10 & 13, CEV)

Sabbath Services

It is wonderful to have people back in our building again for worship. Our in person attendance is not high, but it is a start.

The next few Sabbaths will continue to look and feel a bit different as we continue with social distancing, required face masks, and a format for our worship that focuses on both those who are watching at home and those attending in person.

Whenever you feel your are ready to join us in person, you will be welcome as long as you are willing to follow the health and safety guidelines (click here to see them).

If you currently have underlying health concerns, it still may be the wisest thing to stay home a few more weeks till we see the direction the disease is taking here in our area.

We will continue livestreaming our services and inviting you to interact with us via text messages. You can view it on our website, our Facebook Page, or our YouTube Channel.

We will continue to communicate through our website, our Facebook Page, Golden News (our weekly email newsletter – click here to sign up for it), and the Pastor’s Blog.

We are available by phone and can begin making selective home visits again (click here for contact information for our Elders and me).

As always, we are praying for guidance and listening to health professionals and our local and state governments.

Church Broke Out

Don Jacobsen's blog last weekend was titled Church Broke Out and shares some thoughts about compassion and helping.

I don’t know if this story is true. I’ve never started a piece like this before. I’ve written in this space every Monday evening for more than six years and I’ve never started even once with this beginning. I almost always know more about the story than I know about this one. But I think it’s true and it’s big enough I know you’ll be blessed.

One Thursday morning Molly didn’t put her trash out at the curb. She was an older lady and it had happened before so Gus, her trashman, wasn’t terribly concerned. But when the cans were not there the next week, he was worried. Gus got the name from his dispatcher and called up the customer. “Ma’am,” he asked, “I see you haven’t put your trash cans out for a while. Are you ok?”

“I’m doin’ all right,” she replied. “The lady who comes in to help me was afraid of the virus …”

“So?” Asked Gus.

“So, she stopped coming. I don’t have any trash these days because I’ve run out of food …” (Click here to read the entire post.)

From Bible Gateway’s Weekly Brief

Hope When Life Unravels: What are the upside-down yet encouraging truths of the book of Job and other key Bible passages that remind us of the ways God is present in our pain? Why does God allow suffering? And why does God seem to go silent when we're in pain? How does a pastor work through his faith in the gut-wrenching three-year struggle his family endured with his son's cancer? Bible Gateway interviewed Adam B. Dooley about his book, Hope When Life Unravels: Finding God When It Hurts. (Click here to read more.)

God and the Pandemic: How are we supposed to think Biblically about the Coronavirus crisis? Is it a sign of the end of the world? Is it a call for repentance? Is God judging the world? What should be our approach drawing on Scripture, Christian history, and the way of living, thinking, and praying revealed to us by Jesus? Bible Gateway interviewed Dr. N.T. Wright about his book, God and the Pandemic: A Christian Reflection on the Coronavirus and its Aftermath. (Click here to read more.)

Who Is My Neighbor? Sarah Jackson, author of The House That Love Built: Why I Opened My Door to Immigrants and How We Found Hope beyond a Broken System, says, "When we create the kind of space where displaced, traumatized people feel they’re home, even for a few hours, together we experience a bit of heaven on earth. I believe every small act of hospitality is a step toward Jesus’ desire …" (Click here to read more.)
